Troubleshooting

iPad or iPhone

STEP 1

If you downloaded the package on your device then you will need to unzip it by first installing a free unzip app like WinZip for iOS. You will find that in the App Store. Alternatively you could download the e-book file on your computer, unzip it and transfer the .epub book file to your iPad/iPhone.

STEP 2

You will be reading the .epub file in the iBooks app. Usually iBooks will will automatically detect the .epub file and make it available in your library. Also, when you sync your device with your itunes account, it will be available on all of your Apple devices.

Android tablet or phone

STEP 1

If you downloaded the package on your device then you will need to unzip it by first installing a free unzip app like WinZip for Android. You will find that in the Google Play App Store. Alternatively you could download the e-book file on your computer, unzip it and transfer the .epub book file to your Android device.

STEP 2

You will need an Android app that can read the .epub book file. There are many apps available from the Google Play store that allow you to read epub files on your android phone or tablet. We recommend Aldiko Book Reader. It is easy to use and it will automatically import an epub file found on your device. It also offers great features for readability, dictionary, Google and Wikipedia search, linking to other content, organising your e-book library, and buying other books too.

Your app will usually find and open the .epub file automatically, or you may have to import the file from wherever you saved it on your device into the app.

PC laptop or desktop computer

STEP 1

Unzip the package you have downloaded. Most computers will have software that automatically unzips the file and and creates a folder in the same place the .zip file was opened from. Or you can select where the file is extracted to. If this doesn’t work for you then you can download and install WinZip for free for PC

STEP 2

You can easily read the .epub file on your computer by downloading free e-book reader software for PC. The most common software used is Adobe Digital Editions. Once you have installed that software then you can open the file by right clicking the .epub file, selecting “Open with…” and choosing the Adobe Digital Editions program.

*Note: Adobe Digital Editions is different to Adobe Acrobat Reader that you usually use to read PDFs. It offers a much nicer reading experience too!

Mac laptop or desktop computer

STEP 1

Unzip the package you have downloaded. Most macs will have software that automatically unzips the file and and creates a folder in the same place the .zip file was opened from. Or you can select where the file is extracted to. If this doesn’t work for you then you can download and install WinZip for free for Mac

STEP 2

If your OS X operating system is Mavericks or later then you have the iBooks app already on your computer and you can open the .epub file straight away. If you are on an earlier version of OS X you may not have iBooks or a program that can read the .epub file. You should
a) Upgrade to OS X Mavericks (best option).
b) Download and install a free e-book reader application for Mac. The most common 3rd party software used is Adobe Digital Editions. Once you have installed that software then you can open the file by ctrl clicking the .epub file, selecting “Open with…” and choosing the Adobe Digital Editions program.

*Note: Adobe Digital Editions is different to Adobe Acrobat Reader that you usually use to read PDFs. It offers a much nicer reading experience too!

On a kindle

STEP 1

Download and unzip the file on a computer. Most computers will have software that automatically unzips the file and and creates a folder in the same place the .zip file was opened from. Or you can select where the file is extracted to. If this doesn’t work for you then you can download and install WinZip for free for Mac or PC. You will need the .mobi e-book file in the folder you unzipped.

STEP 2

Amazon protect their proprietary formats so that the Kindle e-reader can only read Kindle books in the .mobi format. Pine Tribe provides the .mobi file with your download. Just transfer that file to your kindle device via your usb cable, and it will appear in your library.

On another e-reader

STEP 1

Download and unzip the file on a computer. Most computers will have software that automatically unzips the file and and creates a folder in the same place the .zip file was opened from. Or you can select where the file is extracted to. If this doesn’t work for you then you can download and install WinZip for free for Mac or PC. You will need the .epub e-book file in the folder you unzipped.

STEP 2

All major e-readers (except kindle) read .epub files including Kobo, Nook, Pocket Book and Hudl. Just transfer the file from your computer to your device and start reading!

Troubleshooting

THE DOWNLOADED FILE DOESN’T UNZIP

If you have an unzipping program (like WinZip) installed, open the file with that. Right-click (PC) or ctrl-click (Mac) and select ‘open with…’ to open the .zip file with your unzipping program.
If this still doesn’t work, the file probably didn’t download completely. Try to download the file again with a strong internet connection.

I’VE UNZIPPED THE FILE BUT THE E-BOOK FILE WON’T OPEN

If you have already downloaded and installed an e-book program on your computer or device as instructed above then you may need to right-click/ctrl-click and select to ‘open with…’ the correct program.
If you’re on a tablet or phone, and the app doesn’t recognise the .epub file then you may need to import the file manually.

THE DOWNLOAD DOES NOT START OR DOES NOT FINISH

Your browser might be blocking the download. You might get a message in the browser asking you to confirm the download or asking where you want to download the file to.
If the download starts but doesn’t finish then make sure you have a strong internet connection and try again.
If the file downloads but it is 0kb in size, or if the download doesn’t start and you get a message like “link expired” or “access denied” then email support[at]pinetribe.com and we will help you out.
