Four Simple Ways to Enhance Green Tea

Green tea is one of the healthiest drinks you can chose, and we probably don’t need to reiterate all of its benefits. It is also highly versatile, meaning it can be paired with many other flavours to create something even tastier and healthier. Here are four simple and tasty ways to enhance green tea.

1. Green tea + black pepper  = slimming

Green tea contains a chemical called ECGC, a key antioxidant which helps your body burn calories. Adding a bit of black pepper to your green tea increases your body’s ability to absorb ECGC for a short period, maximising its benefits and slimming your waistline.

Tip: If you can handle this combination, you can take it one step further by adding cayenne pepper.

1 bag Green Tea
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
8 ounces boiling water

2. Green tea + parsley + lemon = skin clearing

Parsley is great for clearing up your skin and giving you a healthy glow. Blemishes on the skin are often a sign of liver problems, and parsley is effective at detoxifying your liver and kidneys. It is also an effective chlorophyll blood purifier, which aides the detoxification of the kidneys and liver.

Tip: Chose flat leaf Italian parsley over curly parsley for maximum benefits.

1 bag Green Tea
1/4 cup fresh parsley
8 ounces boiling water

Make sure to let it sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking. Add a bit of lemon juice at the end to balance out the taste of the parsley.

3. Green tea + apple cider vinegar + honey = detoxifying

A little bit of apple cider a day keeps the doctor away? Maybe. Apple cider vinegar is rich in natural minerals, vitamins, and enzymes that contain unique acids that bind to toxins to help the body eliminate them. Apple cider vinegar can also help to stimulate circulation and aid detoxification of the liver. Most people don’t enjoy the taste of apple cider vinegar on its own, so adding it to green tea is a great way to incorporate it into your diet.

1 bag Green Tea
1 oz. apple cider vinegar
8 ounces boiling water

Adding a touch of honey after the tea has cooled a bit will balance out the bitterness of the apple cider vinegar.

4. Green Tea + Turmeric + Cinnamon = ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

The versatility of green tea means it pairs well with an endless list of healthy spices. By adding cinnamon and turmeric, you create a tonic that can be used whenever you need to give your body a nutrient boost. Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory, and cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar levels.

1 bag Green Tea
1/4 tsp Turmeric
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
8 ounces boiling water

Add the spices and teabag into your teacup and pour in the hot water for your tea. Steep the tea as directed.

Some of these combinations might take a bit of getting used to before they become staples in your tea routine. Having tried of all them, I can attest that once you find one you love, you won’t be able to go back to regular green tea!
