It’s in the food you eat, the air you breath, absorbed by your skin, and even produced through your metabolism; toxins are unavoidable and everywhere. While embracing and accepting that aging is a normal part of life’s process, it’s important to not become desensitized to the ways you might be aging yourself at a faster rate. Covering it up with a mask, make-up, or pills won’t change the reality either. Diseases, like cancer or diabetes, are often a result of an unhealthy amount of exposure to toxins over a prolonged period of time. “Toxins” are not just external either, we create many of them by the way we live.
There are many physical signs and symptoms your body will give telling you if you need to make a change. So, as to make you aware, here are 5 physical signs that will tell you if it is high time you made some life changes and went on a detox:
1. Chronic Fatigue and Mind Fog
Is one coffee just not cutting it? After having slept for 7-8 hours, are you still sluggish? Do you lack clear thinking, have memory loss, or the inability to focus? Low energy or lack of concentration is not always a sign that you are getting old or have ADHD, it could just mean toxin overload. When your body is clean, on the inside, your mind and emotional well-being will follow on the outside.
2. Complexion Breakouts
The skin is the bodies largest organ and a great barometer of what’s happening. Overexposure to environmental pollution, like cigarette smoke or even fumes from paint or hair spray, can lead to breakouts. Pine Tribe’s leading health lady, Thorbjorg writes, “Your skin is an important part of your immune system…your skin is your security guard. It protects you against foreign substances.” So treat your skin well. A simple solution is a facial and an even more cost-effective method is cleansing the skin daily.
Acne or occasional pimples also indicate that the body is trying to expel something. Unfortunately, only cleaning the skin from the outside won’t fix what’s happening on the inside. Frequent breakouts are a sign of too much sugar or not enough healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil, flaxseed oil, or extra virgin coconut oil in the diet.
3. Sore Muscles, Stiff Joints
There’s a difference between soreness from exercising or from doing nothing. An easy way to alleviate muscle aches are with a hot shower or bath. The best is to use body oil. Applying oils you eat on your skin, such as olive oil, can have amazing benefits on the radiance of the external and internal surface of the skin and organs, helping alleviate muscle soreness.

4. Always Sick?
Do you find that every time the season changes, you catch a cold? Are you sick after traveling? It’s not just a matter of boosting your intake of vitamin C. There are definite factors that tax the immune system while traveling, but there are ways to combat the exhaustion that hits from travel through diet. Frequent colds or illnesses is a way your body is telling you it lacks the strength to fight off infection.
5. Sluggish Digestion
There’s no need to advertise if this is a problem, but chances are if the other four are happening, this one probably is too. Improper elimination, meaning less than once a day, means you are definitely in need of a detox. Lack of a proper bowel movement leads to a buildup of waste in the body and will undoubtedly lead to other problems, such as bloating or potentially, cancer.
Increase your digestion by drinking fresh squeezed lemon or boiled ginger in hot water. Add a bit of turmeric to ease inflammation.
Thankfully, we are not victims of our own fate. While I do recommend enjoying life, be mindful that making a habit of sleeping irregular hours, exposure to cigarettes, or unhealthy toxins can increase the aging of the body. I provided a few tips to combat some, but an intensive detox is the best way to reset the body back to a healthy place.
